In a heartwarming initiative, the 17th batch of the Chinese medical team in Botswana conducted a free medical outreach in Palapye, located in the Central District. Their mission was to provide direct medical services to the university community, offering a much-needed boost to healthcare accessibility.
The event, hosted at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) on a Friday, saw approximately 120 participants benefit from health consultations, examinations, and traditional treatments like acupuncture and massage.

BIUST Vice Chancellor Otlogetswe Totolo praised the Francistown branch of the Chinese medical team for bringing professional and compassionate healthcare to local communities. "This event is a perfect example of how healthcare services can foster friendship and understanding between nations," Totolo stated.
Fan Wandong, the head of the Chinese medical team, echoed these sentiments, describing the outreach as a unique blend of medical assistance and cultural exchange.
"Our team is dedicated to the health and well-being of Botswana's citizens. We strive to build a bridge of friendship and mutual trust through our professional and dedicated healthcare services," Wandong explained.
Since 1981, a total of 17 groups of doctors and nurses have been dispatched to local hospitals in Gaborone and Francistown, with over 500 medical staff serving the community. According to the Chinese medical team, their efforts have impacted the lives of over three million patients.
