Investing in health: A wake up call to leaders

In the current context of reaching budget deficit targets that is pushed by the European Union, this article looks at the impacts on health systems. With new legislation on economic governance, for the first time, the European Union has a bigger role in health systems at national level. The article explores the role for stakeholders, provides examples of successful European Union collaboration and upcoming initiatives in economic governance. The article makes the economic case used by health advocates to the importance of considering health expenditure as an investment and considers the role for health systems in society.

The aim of every healthcare system is to increase user responsiveness and participation. The ideal healthcare system is one in which the provision of care is provided equally across all sections of society. One way users can participate in their health is by expressing their satisfaction or lack of satisfaction depending on the circ*mstance. In Denmark, a high income European country, it was found in a survey conducted a couple years ago that 90% of their citizens were satisfied with state and provision of care. in the case, the ideal questions to ask are; why such a level of satisfaction? How did the Danes achieve this? What changes or efforts led to this outcome? Is possible for other countries to imitate this? Answering questions of this nature is the focus of assignment.

The Nordic countries are well-known for their welfare states. A very important feature of the welfare state is that it aims at easy and equal access to adequate health care for the entire population. For many years, the Nordic systems were automatically viewed as very similar, and they were placed in the same group when the OECD classified health care systems around the world. However, close inspection soon reveals that there are important differences between the health care systems of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Consequently, it is perhaps no surprise that the Nordic countries fell into three different categories when the OECD revised its classification a few years ago. In this paper, we revisit this issue and argue that the most important similarity across the Nordic countries is the institutional context in which the health care sector is embedded. Navigating public/private healthcare boundaries: choice and healthcare capital

While choice is a central value in Australia’s public and private healthcare system, there has been little sociological research on the complexities and experience of choice. This paper proposes a theoretical framework, organised around the concept of ‘healthcare capital’, to inform multi-method research on healthcare choice in Australia. We outline its potential for explaining differential capacity to choose and the ‘choice’ of different pathways through the healthcare maze, and illuminating the complex relationships between construction, perception and enactment of choice. The paper deals with the functioning and development of national health systems in the Kingdom of Denmark, which is a very stable member of the European Union (EU) and United Kingdom, regardless of its recent outbreak (Brexit) from a large European family. The main goal is to make a review of the necessity of creation of professional health personnel, their mobility, financing of business processes and medical procedures, and also on general problems that the health systems are facing every day. As these are highly developed European economies, it is known that the creators of their health policies are continuously working on the improvement of health systems, ensuring adequate health care and raising and maintaining a high level of collective health for the population. Lately, in these kingdoms, many people believe that for the proper functioning of health sector in general, the way of obtaining of necessary financial resources, their amounts and sustainability of the sources have no big importance, while as far more significant emerge the influences of globalization processes which like hurricane destroy systems (insufficient professional staff) without legal and economic-medical arrangements. Given that the authors are not fully in agreement with this statement, they pledge to the invited authorities to pay more attention on the policy of financing, human capital, its improvement and elimination of health inequality, especially in the field of primary health care.
