Orange Marmalade Butter Recipe - the Imperfectly Happy home (1)

Why am I calling this a marmalade “butter”? Well a traditional marmalade has fruit that is suspended in a clear jelly. This recipe for marmalade butter has the same delicious sweet orange flavor but in a thicker, opaque, consistency. I actually prefer this to the traditional marmalade recipes.

This is an easy orange marmalade recipe that anyone can make. It if failure proof!

If you don’t have an Instant Pot yet, there’s never been a better time to make the investment!

How is marmalade traditionally eaten?

Most people would enjoy a fruit marmalade on a scone, maybe with a pot of hot tea. I would recommend trying it on my Old Fashioned Drop Biscuit Recipe for a wonderful addition to your breakfast or weekend brunch. Or try it on a slice of warm sourdough bread. This is the ultimate sweet comfort food!

Easy Instant Pot

This recipe is so easy to make! All it takes only 3 simple ingredients: oranges, sugar, and water. While Instant Pots are all the rage right now, let’s not forget that many of our grandmas and great grandmas used pressure cookers on a regular basis. Now we have these easy to use electric pressure cookers at our disposal! Easy peasy folks!

Orange Marmalade Butter Ingredients

4-5 large oranges (or use a combination of oranges and lemons)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/3 cup water
*You’ll need a food or candy thermometer for the end step.

Directions for Orange Marmalade Butter in Your Instant Pot

Step 1: Wash your oranges thoroughly. Because marmalade is made with the entire orange, peel and all, it is important to get them clean. Remove any stickers. I recommend cutting off any stickers, so there is no residue left. I also cut off the knobby ends where the stems come out. I do recommend using room temperature oranges vs ones right out of the refrigerator.

Step 2: Grate the entire orange. Some people cut the oranges or chop but I find that to get the perfect balance of sweetness and tang that marmalade offers, making sure the peel is grated rather than chopped is the best method.

Step 3: Add orange slices and water to Instant Pot. Do NOT add sugar during this step or it will burn. Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes. When the time is up, use the natural release method to release steam.

Step 4: After the steam is released, add in the sugar and turn Instant Pot to sauté. Cook for 20-25 minutes. It is very important that you stir frequently. If you don’t the marmalade will burn. Once the marmalade it thickened and the temperature is between 223-225 degrees it is finished (this is your “setting point”).

Step 5: Now that your marmalade is ready you’ll pour it into jars using a canning funnel. You want to make sure your mason jars and lids are clean before filling.

The butter should stay fresh 10 – 14 days in the refrigerator but it will also freeze well for later use. I hope you love this orange marmalade butter as much as we have.
