Roasted Almonds with Barbecue Seasoning (1)

I frequently dry roast almonds for baking and add our favorite seasonings to make delicious healthy snacks. I love the the rich flavor of freshly roasted almonds.

This is my dear husband's afternoon pick-me-up treat. I make these barbecue flavored roasted almonds up in great big batches and then portion them in little sandwich bags so we can grab a perfect portion any time.

Almonds- it might seem obvious, but it is important to pick up plain, raw almonds. Many bulk bags are already roasted and salted.

How to Roast Whole Almonds

Dry Roasting Method

  • Preheat your oven to 375°.
  • Spread whole almonds on a sheet pan so they are one layer deep.
  • Roast in the oven for 8 minutes. Then, remove almonds from the oven and toss. Return them to the oven and roast for 5-8 minutes more.

Barbecue Seasoned Almonds

  • Preheat your oven to 375°.
  • Spread whole almonds on a sheet pan so they are one layer deep.
  • Roast almonds in the oven for 8 minutes.
  • Then, remove from the oven and transfer to a mixing bowl.
  • Next, add a drizzle of olive oil around the sides of the bowl and sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the top. Toss the almonds with a large spoon until all of the almonds have a coating of oil and barbecue seasoning.
  • Return to the sheet pan, and roast for 8 more minutes.
  • Cool and enjoy!

Air Fryer Method

Because an air fryer is just a small convection oven, it is the perfect place to roast a small batch of almonds.

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°. Add the whole, raw almonds in a single layer to the air fryer basket. Cook for 3 minutes. Stir almonds or shake the basket. Repeat 3 more times.
  • Add barbecue seasoning and oil to the almonsd at the halfway point just like the oven method.

Why Roast Your Own Almonds

Well money is the number one reason to roast your own almonds. It is a much better deal to buy bulk almonds and roast them yourself. The small bags for baking are priced really high, and the gas stationed snack packs are astronomically high.

Freshness is the other reason. Freshly roasted almonds have a great taste, and you can be sure your snacks or baking addons are the best they can be.

Storage

Place in airtight containers and store in a cool dry place for up to one month.

Store in the freezer for up to six months.

Diana’s Tips

Use small containers or food storage bags to create individual portions for easy grab-and-go snacks.

I love Trader Joe's Mesquite Almonds and wanted to make a similar recipe at home. I had to cook an extra 5 minutes to get them crunchy, maybe my almonds are big. I used smoked paprika to get the BBQ flavor. They came out great! Thanks!

Glad you liked them. Good call on the extra five. It could be the almonds or even a difference in our ovens. Great choice to use smoked paprika. You could use a wide variety of seasoning mixes and get great results. This is definitely a “flexipe”. (Flexible recipe)

I love to make roasted nuts to snack on especially during the holiday season. I always fill a bag, place it in my purse, and take with me while holiday shopping. This allows me to push through those hunger cravings and continue with my mission--shop till you drop!
