Aunt Lou here.

So we returned from vacation, again traveling through the night to get home. So this momma had about 8 hours sleep total for 3 days. Not. Good. Not to worry though, Michael took good care of me! I crawled into bed and was pretty much useless for the next 24-36 hours, and Michael took care of everything! He even went to the store and found an awesome deal on some pork steaks! They were marked down to only $.99/lb! So we had 18 pork steaks (that we broke into three different groups and packaged up) that we have to make up and only paid a little over eight bucks for all of them! Yay!

He didn’t even wait for me to make up the first batch and did a little recipe development all on his own. Being the dear that Michael is, he wrote down the recipe so I can share it with you lovely folks!

Crock Pot Pork Steak with Gravy Notes:

  • For this delicious Crock Pot Pork Steak with Gravy recipe, Michael used myProgrammable Travel Crock Pot. You can use your favorite 5-6 quart slow cooker.
  • What we didn’t realize until after we had already done the pictures for this yummy recipe is that the gravy, made from the juices of the pork steaks and the ingredients added in with it, is awe-some on mashed potatoes! It was seriously over-the-top good!
  • The kids, Michael and I couldn’t get enough of this. I would hate to guess how much my kiddos ate…and they are almost 2 and 4! (Heaven help me when Ryder is a teenager!) However, as Ryder put it, “I ate LOTS of protein tonight!” Yes son, yes you did. 🙂

    Hi Aunt Lou,
Today is the first time I’ve tried pork steak. I put mine in my crock pot also and just kind of guessed what to do with them. I seasoned each steak with pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and smoked paprika. I sliced two small onions and put some on bottom and then put remainder onion on top of steaks and put the other two on top of those onions. I mixed together cream of celery, cream of chicken, some chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce. Waiting to see how they have turned out, hopefully as well as yours.
I also LOVED your little comment at end. Our God
is truly amazing, and my family has also been truly blessed throughout the years. I have never responded to a post before, but really felt I should. I pray that God will continue to bless you and your family beyond measure.

      Hi Mary!

If you cannot find the packet labeled pork gravy mix, a brown gravy mix should work. Enjoy!

Do not cook on low> They will not be done.
Cooked for 3 hours and still not done.
Still pink in the middle. So cooked another 30 and they were ok.
I add grave mixture in later so it doesnt get greasy.

      Hi Dana!

It sounds like your slow cooker doesn’t cook as hot as mine. We highly recommend always watching a recipe closely the first time you make it since all slow cooker cook differently. I hope this helps.

What kind of ground red pepper did you use? I have all kinds of “red pepper” because we mix our own spices for our spice company.

      Hi Nina!

I’m not sure. The label on my package says “Ground Red Pepper”. I would recommend using your favorite ground red pepper. If you give it a try, let me know what you use and how it turns out!

Just wanna make sure the cooking time is correct.

2-3 hours on low? Is that correct?

Can I cook it a little longer?

I cook for an older couple and i need the meat tender.

      Hi Mike!

Props to you for helping out this couple! Pork tends to dry out when cooked too long, so I would use a meat thermometer to make sure it reaches safe internal cooking temperature, but doesn’t get overdone and dried out. You might try the Crock Pot Steak with Gravy recipe. It gets SUPER tender! (link below)

      Hi Edward!

The gravy mix makes the gravy with the other ingredients while the pork steaks cook. So, I’m not sure how it would turn out if you use a prepared gravy. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out!

      Hi Rosie!

I haven’t tried this with a brown gravy mix, but it should work well. The color might be a little different if you brown gravy is darker, but I think the flavor would be pretty close. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out!

Did you leave steaks whole or cut partially? I buy a type of pork steak weekly but these steaks are huge.

We left them whole and layered them in the crock pot. If you want to cut them in half, that would be fine too. Enjoy!

This is confusing about how much pork steak to use. The hand written notes indicate 2 3lb pork steaks but the typed version says 2-3 lbs of pork steak. I don’t knowbif this was a typo but I prepared it with 2-3 lbs and it is having an effect on cooking time so my family is hungrily waiting! Very disappointing!

      Hi Cate!

I’m sorry you are disappointed. The typed recipe is correct. It is 2-3 lbs of pork steaks. The cooking time should be near the time in the recipe card, depending on how your slow cooker cooks. I wouldn’t expect you to try and read Michael’s handwriting! Reading his handwriting is still hard for me at times, and I’ve been reading it for almost seven years! lol I only put the picture in the post to show how sweet he was while I was recovering from driving home from vacation. I hope you and your family enjoyed it once it was done.

      Hi Brooke!

You’ll want to thaw your pork steaks first. Food Safety organizations have brought up the concern of food not reaching safe cooking temps fast enough if the meat starts out frozen. I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

Sounds like you have a sweet husband Aunt Lou. I have a lot of thick center cut pork chops we bought at Sam’s club in bulk and froze individually. Do you think those would work well?

I’m hooked on you, Mikey and Cris….Great recipes and lots of fun! Thanks to all of you for what you do here!

Yes he is! I am one blessed lady!

I haven’t tried it with center cut pork chops, but think it would work. Just watch your cooking time the first time you make it with them so that you can adjust your cooking time as necessary.

Thank you so much! It really means alot to us to hear from people that appreciate what we do!

      Hi Heather!

I haven’t tried it with tenderloin yet.It may fall apart a bit, but it would still be good! If you want, you could use a pork loin as it is not quite as tender. If you cook them as a whole and not cut into chops, then you you will need to extend the cooking time a bit. Let me know how it turns out! Enjoy!

Pork steaks are often pork shoulder, a long-cooking tough meat which tenderizes with low & slow cooking.
